Carla Gangini Art
Tells us how you started painting-
I have always loved to create, always had some sort of creative outlet. I’ve explored many mediums along the way. I took an oil painting class at the Hui No'eau about 10 years ago, I’ve been hooked ever since.
What are your favorite materials right now?
Definitely oil painting, on canvas or wood.
When did you decide to become an artist?
I’ve always wanted to be an artist and I'm so thankful to be able to paint and share my work with the community.
Were you encouraged to follow your dreams and create for a living?
Throughout my childhood my parents encouraged my creativity. Fortunately, I have a husband that has also been an amazing support for me to pursue art.
Is there a single purpose that keeps you focused?
I just love how much beauty there is on Maui. This is so much inspiration to capture on canvas.
What about your medium makes you keep going back? What makes you stick with it?
I want to keep learning, keep exploring and painting with oils.
Is there something that the world should know about you and/or the work that you do?
I’m thankful, thankful for my life on Maui, with an incredible man, thankful for being able to raise two incredible daughters, thankful for the opportunity to paint.
What’s your biggest challenge as a maker?
To keep challenging myself, not getting stuck in a rut. Working in a small studio can also be challenging when trying to create large pieces.
What’s on your current music rotation while creating?
I love listening to Puccini and Andrea Bocelli.
See all of Carla's work.
